Meet the Diocesan

The Diocesan

The Rt Rev’d Michael Adebayo Oluwarohunbi was born on 21st April, 1960. He hails from Ororuwo in Boripe Local Government Area of Osun State.
He attended the Anglican College of Commerce, Offa, Kwara State (1971-76), where he obtained his West African School Certificate (WASC). After his secondary school, he proceeded to the School of Basic Studies, Kwara State College of Technology, Ilorin (1978-79). He obtained the Cambridge General Certificate of Education (GCE) A/Level in 1979. He gained admission into the University of Ife (now Obafemi Awolowo University), Ile-Ife, Osun State (1980-83) where he obtained a Bachelor of Science Degree in Political Science. He also obtained a Master Degree in Business Administration in 2001 from the University of Ilorin, M.A. in Christian Religious Studies in 2019 from Ajayi Crowther Univeristy, Oyo; and currently doing his Ph.D in Biblical Studies with Old Testament as the area of specialization/field of study.
After his graduation from the University, Bishop M. A. Oluwarohunbi secured employment with the Federal Civil Service Commission, as an Administrative Officer in October 1984. He rose in the Civil Service to the position of an Assistant Director. He retired from the Civil Service voluntarily on 31st December, 2009.
Bishop Michael A. Oluwarohunbi joined the Church Ministry as a Licensed Lay reader in 1996 in the Diocese of Abuja. He was ordained into the Diaconate Order on December 6th, 1998 and was ordained Priest on 3rd October, 1999. He was preferred Canon in May 2006 and Venerable in September 2009.
He served as Curate and Vicar of many Parishes within the Diocese of Abuja among which are:
1. St. Barnabas Church, Apo, Abuja (Vicar), 1998 – 1999.
2. Cathedral Church of the Advent (Curate), November 1999 – March, 2000.
3. St. Barnabas’ Church, Apo, Abuja (Vicar), March 2000 – November 2003.
4. St. Matthew’s Church, Gwarimpa Estate (Vicar), November 2003 – September 2009.
5. Cathedral Archdeaconry (Supervisory Priest)/St. Matthew’s Church, Maitama, Abuja (Vicar), September 2009 – December 2012.
6. Cathedral Archdeaconry (Supervisory Priest), January 2012 – February 2014.
Before his election as a Bishop, he was appointed the General Secretary of the Church of Nigeria Headquarters, and he served in this position from March 2010 to February 2014.
Following his election, The Rt Rev’d Michael Adebayo Oluwarohunbi was consecrated the Bishop of Yewa on 18th February, 2014 and enthroned as the third Bishop of the Diocese Of Yewa on 6th March, 2014.
Bishop Oluwarohunbi is married to Grace Olufunke and the union is blessed with four children (One deceased).
